Veteran actress Zarine Khan passed away on November 7 due to an age-related ailment. She was 81. Several industry professionals mourned her demise. Veteran actress and a close friend of Zarine’s, Saira Banu took to her Instagram and paid an emotional tribute to her ‘dear friend’ Zarine Khan, reminiscing moments they had spent together.
Saira Banu shared a picture of Dilip Kumar, Zarine Khan and Sanjay Khan from a party. She also added a poster of Hera Pheri and paid tribute to Sulakshana Pandit.
Alongside the pics, she shared in the caption, “Zarine was very close to me, a dear friend with whom I shared many wonderful moments. She, Appaji and I would spend such lovely hours together…It was only in later years, when health began to trouble us, that we stopped meeting as often. But the bond of affection remained untouched.”
The veteran actress continued, “And you see at various occasions I was really surprised at this woman’s wisdom and how intelligently…just how patiently she handled her life…she knew the art of making things look warm and pleasant even on days when life wasn’t as pleasant. I always thought there was so much to learn from her.”
She added, “Zarine had a remarkable grace about her house proud, artistic, and deeply rooted in beauty. Much like Appaji and myself, she had an eye for the finest things. We often found ourselves drawn to the same embroidery, the same designs even the same jewellery!”
“I remember how Zarine and Shobha Kapoor would ask Appaji “Humare Liye Bhi Aisa Kada Banwaiye, Jo Saira Ne Pehna Hai”, “Humare Liye Bhi Aisi Earring Banwaiye Jo Saira Ne Pehni Hai”. It’s easy to put that she absolutely admired Appaji’s taste,” recalled Saira Banu.
The veteran actress shared that what she admired most about Zarine Khan was her quiet strength in holding her marriage together. She mentioned that Abbas was a flamboyant man, full of life and colour, and Zarine complemented him with serenity and understanding.

Abbas was a flamboyant man, full of life and colour, and she complemented him with serenity and understanding. Her perspective on life and marriage was truly exemplary. Their lasting marriage, stands on the foundation of her patience, wisdom, and the deep love that sustained them through time.”
However, Saira Banu also paid a tribute to the veteran actress Sulakshana Pandit, who passed away at Mumbai’s Nanavati Hospital, where she had been admitted for age-related complications.
Saira Banu recalled Sulakshana Pandit as a devoted, loving young woman with a pure, heart-touching voice, fondly remembering her visits with her family, her laughter, humility, and sparkle, and cherishing their reunion while working together on Prakash Mehra’s Hera Pheri.
She wrote, “And then there was Sulakshana Pandit so devoted to her family, so full of love. She sang like a nightingale, her voice touched hearts with its purity. A wonderful young lady, she would often visit our home after our marriage, accompanied by her talented brothers Jatin and Lalit and revered father Pandit Ji. I remember her fondly her laughter, her humility, her sparkle. Later, destiny brought us together again when we worked on Prakash Mehra’s “Hera Pheri” memories that will forever stay close to my heart.”
Saira Banu concluded her post by writing, “Today, as I remember both Zarine and Sulakshana, my heart feels heavy, yet full of love. They were women of immense grace and warmth and I shall always cherish the moments we shared. May their gentle souls rest in peace and their light continue to shine eternally in the heavens above.”
