In a fitting tribute on the eve of Shah Rukh Khan’s 59th birthday, The Academy honored his unforgettable entry scene from Karan Johar’s 2001 classic, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. This nod to one of his most iconic moments added a special touch to the beloved superstar’s celebrations.
The Academy shared the memorable Diwali scene from the Raichand mansion in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham on Instagram. In this iconic moment, Shah Rukh Khan’s character, Rahul Raichand, makes a grand arrival by stepping out of a black helicopter onto the courtyard. His mother, Nandini Raichand, portrayed by Jaya Bachchan, instinctively feels his presence, making for an emotionally charged reunion.
The caption of the post read," A mother’s intuition is always right. Film: KABHI KHUSHI KABHIE GHAM… Directed and written by Karan Johar. Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor."
As Nandini Raichand (Jaya Bachchan) welcomes her husband, Yash Raichand (Amitabh Bachchan), with an aarti ki thali, her attention shifts as she senses her son’s presence nearby. She moves towards the entrance, where Shah Rukh Khan’s character, Rahul, dressed in all black, is approaching eagerly. Just as doubt starts to cloud her intuition, she turns away, only to catch sight of him in the corner of her eye. With a warm smile, he gestures playfully, asking, “Hey mom, how do you always know when I’m coming?” Tears of joy fill her eyes as she smiles back, applies tilak to his forehead, and lovingly cups his face.
Shah Rukh Khan fans and netizens expressed their love and admiration for the superstar in the comment section. One fan wrote, "The biggest superstar in the world". Another fan commented, "@theacademy This is one of the most ICONIC moments in Indian cinema ever!". A fan also wrote, "Unbelievable. This has reached even the Academys!!!!"
