The much-awaited sequel to the 2023 action hit has officially been set in motion, and all eyes are on the powerhouse collaboration that’s taking shape behind the scenes.

According to Bollywood Hungama, People’s Media Factory and Mythri Movie Makers have brought on board veteran filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi to direct the sequel, transforming the Sunny Deol starrer into a full-fledged franchise.

Sources close to the production reveal that the makers are eager to take the sequel to greater heights, both in terms of scale and storytelling. And Santoshi, the man behind classic films like Ghayal, Damini, and Ghatak, who has a lengthy and fruitful relationship with Sunny Deol, is the ideal person to do that. Their reunion after years is already creating waves of nostalgia and excitement among fans.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “The producers of Jaat are all excited to spin the actioner into a franchise and have the blessings of Sunny Deol, too, to do the same. As director Gopichand Maneni is busy with other commitments, they have roped in Rajkumar Santoshi to direct the action-packed entertainer. The producers and Sunny Deol are confident that Santoshi's involvement in the world of Jaat will raise the stakes even further.”

In fact, Rajkumar Santoshi is reportedly being paid a record-breaking sum of ₹15 crore to direct Jaat 2 — the highest paycheck of his career.

“Rajkumar Santoshi has been paid a huge sum of Rs. 15 crores to direct the sequel to Jaat, and this happens to be his biggest pay cheque to date. The paperwork is expected to happen in a month,” the insider added.

The original Jaat, starring Sunny Deol, turned out to be a solid performer at the box office despite a fair share of controversy, even going head-to-head with Akshay Kumar’s Kesari: Chapter 2. Fans praised its raw energy and Deol’s trademark intensity, calling it a throwback to his golden era of action cinema.

Back in April, Sunny Deol had already hinted at the sequel in a heartfelt video he shared from the mountains. Dressed casually and walking through a misty valley, he said:

“Aap logon ne mujhe meri Jaat ke liye dher saara pyaar diya… Main waada karta hoon, Jaat 2 isse bhi achi hogi (You all gave me so much love for Jaat… I promise, Jaat 2 will be even better).”

He added with a smile,

“Main aksar waadiyon mein ghoomne aa jaata hoon, kyunki mujhe bahut acha lagta hai (I often go for walks in the valleys because it brings me peace).”
