Saiyaara breaks records: From Mohit Suri’s career-best film to highest opening day collection, Ahaan Panday, Aneet Padda’s debut creates history

Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda's debut film Saiyaara has taken the box office by storm, breaking multiple records and rewriting history in Bollywood. Directed by Mohit Suri, the romantic drama opened to an overwhelming response, achieving the highest opening day collection for a film led by newcomers.

With its powerful storytelling, chart-topping music, and fresh on-screen chemistry, Saiyaara has not only become Suri’s career-best opener but also surpassed the expectations of critics and audiences alike. From record-breaking advance bookings to entering the Rs 100 crore club within days, Saiyaara marks a milestone moment for new-age Bollywood cinema.

Unprecedented opening day for debutants

Saiyaara earned Rs 21 crore on its first day (July 18, 2025), setting a new record for the highest opening day by a Hindi film led by debut actors. It surpassed Dhadak’s Rs 8.76 crore from 2018. Dhadak marked the debut of Jahnvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter.

It also outperformed major romantic releases like Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (Rs 11.1 crore), Kabir Singh (Rs 20.21 crore), and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar (Rs 15.73 crore). This makes it the biggest opening day for a love story starring newcomers

Advance booking records

The film sold approximately 3.8 lakh tickets in advance, collecting Rs 9.39 crore before release—marking the highest advance ticket sales for a debutant film since 2000 when Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai released.

Over 1.38 lakh tickets were sold via multiplex chains like PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis.

Strong Opening Weekend

In its opening weekend, Saiyaara collected an impressive Rs 83 crore domestically, becoming the highest opening weekend ever for a Hindi film with debut leads.

Globally, it grossed about Rs 119 crore (≈USD 11.9 million), placing it among the top 5 opening weekends of 2025 worldwide.

Rs 100 crore club and beyond

By Day 4, it crossed the Rs 100 crore net mark domestically, joining the Rs 100 crore club and surpassing Sikandar (Rs 129.95 crore lifetime) in just five days.

By Day 5, net collections reached Rs 132 crore, beating Salman Khan’s Sikandar and challenging milestones set by stars like Akshay and Aamir.

Mohit Suri’s Career Best

The Rs 21 crore Day 1 haul marks director Mohit Suri’s best ever opening, surpassing his earlier hit Ek Villain (Rs 16.70 crore), Aashiqui 2 (Rs 6.10 crore), and Murder 2 (Rs 6.95 crore)

Musical Milestone

The title track of Saiyaara smashed streaming records with 3.61 million Spotify India streams in 24 hours, a new Bollywood record, and charted at #7 on the Spotify Global Top 50—the highest ever for a Hindi song.
