Kantara Chapter 1 storms box office, Rishab Shetty starrer crosses Rs 500 crore worldwide

Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 has stormed past the Rs 500-crore mark at the global box office, cementing its place as one of India’s biggest cinematic triumphs of 2025. According to Dinamani, the film has officially collected Rs 509.25 crore worldwide, just over a week after its release on October 2.

Produced by Hombale Films, the movie continues the mythological and cultural legacy that began with Kantara (2022), which explored Karnataka’s divine folklore and land politics. The sequel expands on that universe with deeper mythological layers, intense visuals, and powerful performances, earning both commercial success and critical acclaim.

Despite having what many describe as a “simple story,” Kantara Chapter 1 has been widely praised for its large-scale production and Hollywood-level technical finesse. From breathtaking cinematography to an atmospheric background score, every element has resonated with audiences across languages.

Rukmini Vasantha’s portrayal has particularly stood out, drawing strong attention even before the film’s release. The combination of her performance and Rishab Shetty’s storytelling has been a key driver of the film’s widespread appeal.

Industry observers note that Kantara Chapter 1’s rapid climb to Rs 500 crore underscores the growing appetite for regional cinema that blends rooted storytelling with universal visual grandeur. Its success also reaffirms Hombale Films’ ability to turn culturally specific narratives into pan-Indian events, following blockbusters like KGF and the first Kantara.

In an official statement, Hombale Films described the milestone as a “divine success,” adding that the film continues to enjoy a “stormy collection” across domestic and international markets.
