Dev Uthani Ekadashi, also called Prabodhini Ekadashi, holds immense religious importance in Hinduism. It marks the end of the four-month-long Chaturmas period, during which Lord Vishnu is believed to be in a deep cosmic slumber. On this day, devotees celebrate the awakening of Lord Vishnu, symbolizing the beginning of auspicious events like marriages, housewarmings, and other religious ceremonies.
The term ‘Dev Uthani’ literally means “the awakening of the gods.” It is said that Lord Vishnu wakes up on this day from his divine sleep on the Sheshnag in Kshirsagar (cosmic ocean), and the universe resumes auspicious activities.
