A Blinkit delivery executive from Uttarakhand has gone viral for his video detailing how much he earns from his gig daily. In one video that was made in September and is currently viral, the man, identified as Thapliyal Ji, said he earned Rs 763 after delivering 28 orders in 15 hours a day.
In the video, Thapliyal shared screenshots of his earnings on the Blinkit app which showed that he had earned Rs 15.83 delivering his last order for the day. His average earning was Rs 52 per hour.
'Business model is flawed'
The video sparked intense reactions with several social media users calling the meagre payment "exploitation of cheap human labour".
Tagging Blinkit, an Instagram user wrote, "Who's going to take care of your employees who deliver the goods in the blink of an eye. Treat your workers with fairness." While a section of users urged the quick delivery company to pay their delivery executives better, another section encouraged customers to tip them. One Instagram user, however, pointed out: "Please don't blame Blinkit. This business model itself is flawed."
After the reel went viral, Thapliyal shared more updates showing better earnings on other days. In one of his reels recorded in October, he showed an earning of Rs 1,202 after delivering 32 orders in 11 hours.
Elaborating more on the nature of his job and earnings, Thapliyal said, "When there are orders available on Blinkit, it's easy to earn more. Sometimes it's possible to earn Rs 1,600 to Rs 2,000 on order-heavy days, but on days that the orders come far and between, it's difficult to make even Rs 1,000."
