A Mumbai-based advertising CEO, Shubham Gune, became the focus of online attention after he shared a light-hearted LinkedIn post suggesting that the platform introduce a new badge called “#OpenToMarry”, similar to its existing “Open to Work” feature.
The founder and chief executive of the advertising agency Hinglish, Gune said he was inspired to make the proposal after being disappointed by his experiences with dating and matrimony platforms. In his post, he asked, “Mujhse Shaadi Karogi? Before you judge me, hear me out.”
Explaining his reasoning, Gune wrote that despite trying several conventional routes — such as dating apps, matrimonial sites, and introductions through friends and family — he had yet to find a suitable partner. “There are so many of us in the right age, right stage of careers, financially independent and emotionally ready. If LinkedIn can get us jobs, clients, mentors, and investors… why can’t it help us find love?” he wrote.
Accompanying his post was an edited profile photo displaying the mock banner “Open To Marry.” Using his trademark advertising humour, he also proposed starting a movement under the tag #OpenToMarry, combining professional networking with the search for long-term companionship.
According to his professional profile, Gune has spent more than a decade in the advertising industry and has worked with over 60 brands across India, including several product launches. Alongside running his agency, he also teaches advertising. His company, Hinglish, operates as a full-service advertising firm.
The post quickly gained traction, drawing thousands of reactions and turning the comments section into what users jokingly called a “LinkedIn swayamvar.” Many responded with humour, while others related to his frustration with modern matchmaking.
One commenter joked, “99 missed calls from Anupam Mittal,” referring to the Shaadi.com founder. Another user quipped, “You should start a new show — Shubham Ka Swayamvar.” One person commented saying, “Finally! A hiring post where long-term commitment actually means long-term commitment,” and another adding, “Now hiring… for a life partner.”
The conversation reached another level when Shaadi.com’s official handle joined in, commenting, “We got LinkedIn swayamvar before GTA 6.”
