Billie Eilish released her highly anticipated album ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’ on Friday. And for the cherry on top, the ‘Bad Guy’ singer also released the music video for a song titled ‘Lunch’ off the album.
In the self directed music video, Eilish is seen dancing around and having the time of her life wearing super baggy outfits and caps backwards. The music video takes you on a trip down memory lane as it gives of heavy, heavy, heavy 90s energy.
It is filmed with an overexposed, grainy filter and the fisheye lens. The backdrop is pure white but as the song gets more groovy and intense, her background shifts to bright primary colours. The music video reminds one of Beastie Boys with the 90s visuals and street style.
‘Lunch’ is a flirty and spicy song that Eilish dedicated to women.
She recently spoke to Rolling Stones and said that the song was her embracing her queer identity.
"I wrote some of it before even doing anything with a girl, and then wrote the rest after. I’ve been in love with girls for my whole life, but I just didn’t understand — until, last year," she said.
"I could eat that girl for lunch / Yeah, she dances on my tongue / Tastes like she might be the one / And I could never get enough /I could buy her so much stuff,” Eilish sings on the zesty track.
The song serves as the first lead single of her new era. Her latest album had no pre-released singles.
She spoke to Rolling Stones about her opinion on singles.
“I don’t like singles from albums. Every single time an artist I love puts out a single without the context of the album, I’m just already prone to hating on it. I really don’t like when things are out of context. This album is like a family: I don’t want one little kid to be in the middle of the room alone.”
‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’ is already one of the most streamed and best rated albums of this year despite being released yesterday. Fans are already locking down the album as the front runner for the Album of the Year Grammy award.
