The tragic death of Humane Sagar, one of the Odia music scene's biggest stars, at the age of 34, has left fans and other musicians reeling.
Fans have resorted to his last Instagram post, which has since gone viral, in the days after his death.
The short video captures him performing passionately inside a radio studio — his voice soaring, his eyes closed in concentration. He sings Bhagya Rekha — a moving track from the 2024 Odia album of the same name, created with Baidyanath Dash and Antara Chakraborty.
The comments section has now become a place of mourning and remembrance. “Legends never die,” one user wrote, while another shared, “Your legacy will continue in the hearts and lives you touched.”
According to The Times of India, Sagar was admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar on 14 October after arriving at the emergency department around 1:10 p.m. in a critical state. He was quickly shifted to the Medical ICU, where a team of doctors carried out several tests and began intensive treatment. In the weeks that followed, his condition worsened despite their ceaseless efforts.
Humane Sagar died of multi-organ dysfunction syndrome on November 17 at 9:08 p.m. He had been fighting a number of serious illnesses, including bilateral pneumonia, acute-on-chronic liver failure, severe respiratory failure, kidney injury, and heart complications, according to the official bulletin from AIIMS Bhubaneswar. The music industry was rocked and devastated by the announcement.
Humane Sagar, who was born in Titlagarh, in the Bolangir district of Odisha, gained notoriety with the title track of Ishq Tu Hi Tu.
He went on to record hundreds of songs, including beloved albums like Niswasa, Bekhudee, and Chehera (2017). As evidence that genuine artistry transcends linguistic boundaries, he even dabbled in Hindi music with Mera Yeh Jahan.
