Humane Sagar’s voice carried the warmth of Odisha’s folk roots and the emotional pull of its modern cinema. On November 17, 2025, that voice fell silent. The 34-year-old singer, who had been undergoing treatment for more than 72 hours, passed away at AIIMS Bhubaneswar despite continuous monitoring and advanced life-support interventions. His death has left the Odia music fraternity shaken, with fans across the state and beyond mourning the loss of an artist who rose from a small-town background to become one of Ollywood’s most recognisable voices.
The news came after days of anxious updates about his condition. His ex-wife had earlier revealed that there had been no improvement in the previous 24 hours, raising fear among admirers who had been hoping for a recovery. By Monday evening, those fears became reality.
Death Reason:
Humane Sagar was rushed to the AIIMS emergency on October 14 at 1.10 pm in critical condition and shifted to the Medical ICU soon after. Doctors later confirmed he was battling multi-organ dysfunction, acute-on-chronic liver failure, bilateral pneumonia, and severe cardiac complications.
Early Life: Music in His Blood
Born on 25 November 1990 in Titilagarh, Bolangir district, Humane Sagar grew up surrounded by music in the most literal sense. His grandfather was a composer known for private albums, while both his parents were singers deeply rooted in Odisha’s cultural traditions. For a child raised in that environment, melody wasn’t just a passion; it was the language of everyday life. That exposure shaped him long before fame found him.

His big break came in 2012 when he participated in Tarang TV’s singing reality show Voice of Odisha Season 2. His powerful, emotional singing resonated instantly with audiences. By the finale, he had already become a household name, and his win marked the beginning of a journey that would define Ollywood music in the 2010s and 2020s.
Rise in Ollywood: A Voice That Became Unmistakable
Humane Sagar’s playback debut arrived in 2015 with the film Ishq Tu Hi Tu, where he sang the title track composed by Abhijit Majumdar. The song became a runaway hit. His voice, raw yet controlled, emotional yet technically sharp, quickly became synonymous with youthful romance in Odia cinema.
Over the next decade, he recorded more than 150 songs in about 50 films and nearly 200 album tracks. Some of his most loved songs include Sehzadi O Sehzadi, Mu Pardesi Chadhei, Sunn Zara, Gote Sua Gote Saari, Tum Mo Love Story, Nishwasa To Bina Chalena and Pyar Bala Hichki. His consistent popularity also led to him being called the “voice of Anubhav Mohanty,” thanks to the long list of hits he recorded for the Ollywood superstar.
Sagar’s vocals always carried a dramatic lift, something that made them ideal for emotional sequences. Whether it was heartbreak, devotion, or celebration, he had a way of making a song feel personal to the listener.
A Public Career Beyond Music
In 2019, Sagar took a step few singers from the industry had taken before. He joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), entering state politics with an intention to work on cultural and youth-related issues. Although his political journey didn’t dominate headlines the way his songs did, it reflected his desire to serve beyond the stage.
Personal Life and Struggles
Humane Sagar married fellow Voice of Odisha contestant Shriya Mishra in 2017, and the couple has a daughter. But the relationship went through turmoil, eventually ending in a highly publicised divorce. His emotional struggles, especially after the death of his father, were often reflected in how he spoke during interviews and public appearances. Friends and collaborators frequently described him as someone who carried the weight of his emotions openly, both in life and in music.
Despite personal challenges, his work never slowed down. His songs continued to top playlists, feature in popular reels, and dominate the Odia music charts.
Legacy of a Short but Impactful Life
Humane Sagar’s story is a reminder of how far talent can travel even from the smallest corners of the country. He came from Titilagarh, stepped into a regional reality show, and went on to define a generation of Odia film music.
