Mandira Bedi and her late husband, Raj Kaushal, had always wanted to expand their family. After the birth of their son Vir on June 19, 2011, at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai, they decided to adopt a girl to complete their family. In 2013, the couple initiated the adoption process, and on July 28, 2020, they welcomed 4-year-old Tara Bedi Kaushal into their home.
