The eighth day of Navratri is also known as Durga Ashtami, holds immense spiritual importance. This day, dedicated to Maa Mahagauri, will be observed on 29th September 2025, Monday, during the Shukla Paksha of Ashwina month. Devotees worship the eighth form of Goddess Durga with deep devotion, seeking blessings of purity, peace, and prosperity.

Maa Mahagauri: The Goddess of Purity

On Ashtami, devotees worship Maa Mahagauri, symbol of calmness, purity, and serenity. Known for her glowing white complexion, she rides a bull and carries a trident and damaru in her hands. It is believed that worshipping her helps remove past sins, obstacles, and grants a life filled with harmony and fulfillment.

Navratri 2025 Day 8: Puja Vidhi

Devotees begin the day with Ghatasthapana rituals and follow traditional worship practices. The main steps of Maa Mahagauri Puja Vidhi include:

  • Wake up early and take a holy bath.
  • Decorate the altar with flowers, kalash, and sacred items.
  • Offer white flowers, coconut, and sweets to Maa Mahagauri.
  • Recite Durga Saptashati or Maa Mahagauri mantras.
  • Perform aarti in the evening and distribute bhog as prasad.

Maa Mahagauri Mantra

Chanting mantras dedicated to the goddess is considered highly auspicious. Devotees often recite:

ॐ देवी महागौर्यै नमः॥ Om Devi Mahagauryai Namah॥

This mantra is believed to purify the soul and bring divine blessings.

Rituals & Kanya Puja

Durga Ashtami is also known for Kanya Pujan or Kumari Puja, where nine young girls are worshipped as embodiments of Maa Durga. Devotees wash their feet, offer food, gifts, and blessings. This ritual is considered one of the most sacred acts of Navratri, symbolizing respect and devotion to the feminine divine power.
