Actor Khushbu Sundar, who appeared in a supporting role in the film Annaatthe starring Rajinikanth, has expressed regret about her being a part of the project. In a recent interview, Khushbu opened up about her disappointment with how her role turned out. Khushbu revealed that the character she was offered initially was quite different from what she ultimately portrayed on screen.
Khushbu explained that she was excited to be a part of the movie because the role was sold to her as a fun and lively one, with the potential for her to play a significant part in the story.
She believed her role would be similar to that of a heroine, alongside Meena, with both of them having important moments with Rajinikanth's character. However, as the film progressed, the situation changed.
"Initially, Meena and I were told that we would be the leading women in the film, and there would be no other actor paired with Rajinikanth," she shared. "The role seemed happy, comical, and full of life, and I accepted it with great excitement."

But things took an unexpected turn when Nayanthara was brought in as the new heroine. Khushbu admitted that this development led to her character being sidelined, and she felt her role became more of a "caricature."
She further explained, "When I saw the final version of the film during dubbing, I was very disappointed. My role had changed, and it didn't feel the way I had imagined. It felt like the character I had played was turned into a caricature."
Khushbu was also asked whether it was Rajinikanth's decision to introduce a new heroine in the film. She clarified that the superstar had no role in that decision, stating, "Rajinikanth is not someone who would make such choices. I have known him for many years, and I don’t know exactly what led to this change. It could have been the fans' demand, or perhaps the director and producer felt it was necessary to bring in another heroine. Initially, both Meena and I had separate duet songs with Rajinikanth."
Annaatthe, directed by Siruthai Siva, was a family drama centered around the brother-sister relationship. Despite featuring a strong star cast that included Rajinikanth, Nayanthara, Meena, Keerthy Suresh, and others, the film received negative reviews. Critics pointed out that the story was weak and overly melodramatic, which added to the disappointment surrounding the movie.
