It is no more a matter of presumption that Shree Venkatesh Film’s (SVF) Amazon Obhijaan would make history. It is already changing the idea of a standard Bengali film. To start with, the film has been shot in the Amazon rainforest and has had a working budget of Rs 20 crores — a number unheard of in the tinsel town of Bengal.
“We have packed in everything that Bengali movies haven’t seen before. From extensive use of VFX, to shoot at exotic locations and a whopping budget. Amazon Obijaan is breaking stereotypes associated with Tollywood films,” said Mahendra Soni, co-founder and director at SVF.
The first film in the franchisee, Chander Pahar in 2013, had set the trend to introduce as many firsts in the movie as possible. Having collected Rs 15 crore as worldwide collections, this film shot in South Africa had impressed not just the Bengalis in the country but also the Indian diaspora globally.
Amazon Obhijaan, too, would be marketed at international markets including the United States and the United Kingdom. If all goes well the film shall also be exhibited in Bangladesh.
While the film waits to get dubbed for the South Indian audience and also the Hindi speaking crowd it is already popular on social media across the country. Thanks to its unique poster.
A gigantic 320-feet long and 190-feet wide poster of Amazon Obhijaan was unveiled at the Mohun Bagan football ground in Kolkata earlier this week.
The surprises do not end here. Amazon Obhijaan is also coming up with a graphic novel with the entire storyboarding of the film.
“Since we have taken the protagonist out of the first film in the franchisee Chander Pahar we wanted to do it well. The book will be released digitally and across all major bookstores in a week’s time so that people get a hang of what they could expect in the film,” added Soni.
The film stars Tollywood A-lister Dev in the lead and is directed by Kamaleshwar Mukherjee. Though the release date is same as Bollywood’s biggest release of the year Tiger Zinda hai, SVF isn’t feeling any pressure about the same.
“We are happy with the content we have created. Viewers would want to go to the theatres to watch this movie. We are confident our viewers will make a wise decision,” Soni said.
