US President Donald Trump, who already has his own social media app, is now entering the smartphone business. His latest venture — Trump Mobile — includes both a mobile service and a shiny new device called the T1 Phone. And interestingly, Nothing CEO Carl Pei has already gotten his hands on it.
Pei, who’s known for speaking his mind, shared a surprisingly glowing review online.“This phone — it’s unbelievable. Fast, beautiful, does everything. People are switching — they’re tired of the junk. It’s a total winner. Everyone loves it,” he said.
He even added, “We’re cooked. Phone 3a has some competition now.”
Whether he was being serious or sarcastic is up for debate, but the comments definitely stirred up a buzz — especially with the Nothing Phone (3) expected soon.
What’s Trump Mobile all about?
Trump Mobile is a mobile service powered by T-Mobile’s network, launched by the Trump family. It works like Mint Mobile or other small carriers, but with a strong political twist. The monthly plan is called The 47 Plan — a reference to Donald Trump’s hope of becoming the 47th U.S. president — and costs $47.45. It includes unlimited calls, texts, and data, plus extras like telehealth access and roadside assistance.
T1 Phone: Specs and features
The T1 Phone is priced at $499 and is expected to ship in September. It features a large 6.78-inch screen, 120Hz refresh rate, 12GB RAM, 256GB of storage (expandable), and a 5,000mAh battery. In a surprise move, it also includes a headphone jack — something rare in newer phones.
However, the camera setup is fairly basic: one 50MP main lens and two smaller ones for macro and depth. There’s no ultra-wide or zoom camera, and the promo image looks photoshopped, which makes people wonder how ready the device actually is.
Though it claims to be “designed and built in the USA,” no details about manufacturing have been shared yet. Preorders are open with a $100 deposit.
Hype or real competition?
It’s still unclear whether the T1 Phone is aimed at serious tech users or just Trump supporters. But with Carl Pei’s dramatic (or possibly tongue-in-cheek) praise, the phone has definitely made an entrance — and possibly turned a few heads along the way.
