London-based tech brand Nothin has announced Essential, a new AI platform that comes with a bunch of tools. Nothing says that with Essential, its aim is to evolve into its first truly AI-native operating system.
Essential brings two core additions — Essential Apps and Playground. The first one are personalised apps you can create instantly with natural language. Meanwhile Playground is a new community-powered platform for downloading, sharing and remixing Apps, and other community creations.
“With Essential, we begin to chip away at the outdated and elitist system set up by the legacy market leaders. A new era requires new thinking. The future of software will be one of unrestricted access, collective innovation, and hyper personalisation. Moats of the past will be dismantled, opening the door to a truly user-led future." said Carl Pei, CEO of Nothing.
How do Essential apps work?
Users need to just describe what they are looking for. For instance, one can ask “capture the receipts from camera roll” and AI generates an Essential App you can add to your home screen instantly.
Nothing also said that its community has already created hundreds of Essential Apps built for real, specific needs.
The announcement builds on Nothing’s claimed growth: over $1B in sales and millions of devices shipped within five years. Unlike incumbents, Nothing says it has no incentive to maintain the status quo — positioning itself as an independent challenger building an open, user-led ecosystem.
