Google Drive’s built-in document scanner feature is getting a major update that will make the scanning of documents better and easier for users. According to Google’s recently published blog post, the Document scanner feature within Drive will get a new auto-enhancement feature to make the scanned documents high-quality without any user input.
Google Drive’s Document scanner to get better
The auto enhancement feature in Drive is designed to deliver high-quality scanned documents with the right white balance, automatic shadow removal, sharpening, light improvements, etc. The feature triggers automatically without requiring users to adjust each parameter manually and individually.

How it will make things better for users
The feature is aimed at making things easier for users. With the auto-enhance feature, Google Drive will automatically make required adjustments to the document to deliver the best possible results without compromising the quality of the document. The feature will eliminate the added steps that users were supposed to take to make the documents and texts appear crips and clear by adjusting several parameters within Google Drive.
Do keep in mind that the manual parameter adjustments are still available and despite Drive’s auto enhancement feature, users will have the option to make the adjustments as per the requirements.
Rollout details
The updated Document scanner feature for Drive is now rolling out via the Rapid Release domain and the full rollout is expected to happen by January 2, 2025. The update will roll out in the Scheduled Release domain starting January 6, 2025. The update will be available to all Google account holders including personal, Workspace, and Workspace Individual users.
