The OnePlus 15 has launched in India with a starting price of Rs 72,999, higher than the OnePlus 13 which debuted at Rs 69,999. While the new model introduces the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and a 7,300mAh battery, the increase in price comes alongside several specification reductions that impact core hardware elements of the device. These downgrades include changes to the display, camera system, haptics, and long-standing signature features.
Display downgradeThe OnePlus 15 shifts to a 1.5K AMOLED display with a resolution of 1272 x 2772 pixels. The OnePlus 13 offered a 2K (QHD+) panel. OnePlus has noted that the move was required to enable a 165Hz refresh rate at this panel size, but the drop in pixel density remains a clear reduction in display sharpness compared to the predecessor.
Camera hardware downgradeThe triple 50-megapixel cameras now use smaller sensors and narrower apertures than those in the OnePlus 13. The main camera features a 1/1.56-inch sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, compared to the earlier 1/1.4-inch sensor with an f/1.6 aperture. Smaller sensors and narrower apertures capture less light, affecting low-light performance. Similar reductions are present in the telephoto camera module.
Loss of Hasselblad brandingThe long-running Hasselblad partnership does not continue on the OnePlus 15. Instead, the device uses the in-house DetailMax image engine. The OnePlus 13 included Hasselblad tuning and branding across its camera system.
Haptic motor downgradeThe haptic motor in the OnePlus 15 is smaller than the unit used in the previous generation. This change reduces the strength and precision of tactile feedback for notifications, typing, and system interactions.
Costlier than OnePlus 13OnePlus 15 starts at Rs 72,999, it is around Rs 3,000 more than the OnePlus 13's launch price. And with all the specs reductions, the price hike makes the biggest downgrade among all. Not only that, it also reduces the overall value proposition of the phone.
