When a batter reaches a fifty or a century, they often lift their bat in acknowledgment, soaking in the applause from the crowd. Similarly, bowlers who claim a five-wicket or ten-wicket haul haul proudly raise the ball, showcasing their feat to the spectators. Every cricketer has a unique way of celebrating milestones. While batters often acknowledge the crowd with a raised bat after reaching a half-century or a century, many bowlers bring their own flair to wicket celebrations. Some have signature styles, while others draw inspiration from their favourite athletes in different sports. Like Mohammed Siraj performing Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘Siu’ celebration, Ravindra Jadeja has his trademark sword celebration.
From MS Dhoni’s gentle bat raise to Imran Tahir’s marathon sprint, every cricket celebration has a story to tell. Among the many unique styles, Hasan’s ‘generator’ celebration stands out as one that grabbed attention early in his career. Before him, the cricketing world had already witnessed Brett Lee’s iconic chainsaw celebration and Shoaib Akhtar’s signature fighter jet run, but Hasan introduced something entirely new.
His celebration mimics a bomb explosion—he pumps an imaginary detonator before mimicking a blast. While it’s an eye-catching spectacle, it has also caused him trouble in the past. On multiple occasions, Hasan has been seen experiencing discomfort immediately after doing it, yet he has stuck to his trademark style. But where did this unusual celebration come from? Like every iconic gesture, there’s a story behind it.
Recently, Hasan revealed the inspiration behind his celebration during a podcast, explaining that he got the idea from the Bollywood movie ‘Diljale’. Speaking on Cricwick’s ‘Ultra Edge’ show, he shared the story: “There was a scene in the movie where people were blown up after stepping on landmines. After watching that, I thought, ‘Remove the pin, boom, and the batsman is out of the park.’ Initially, I also included a kick at the end, but after a few tours, someone told me it looked rude, so I decided to drop that part.”

Unfortunately, fans haven’t seen Hasan’s signature celebration in quite some time. His last appearance in a Pakistan jersey dates back to May, during a T20I against Ireland in Dublin. While he still has age on his side and the potential for a comeback, the current state of Pakistan cricket and the way the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been handling player selections, his return seem like a distant dream for now.
