Ravichandran Ashwin doesn't hesitate from sharing his opinion, a fact that is well known among fans. Apart from his crafty spin bowling, he is known to keep things simple and straightforward when it comes to discussing cricket. However, while doing the same on his YouTube channel, Ashwin casually dropped a joke involving Sachin Tendulkar and Shubman Gill, which has now spread like wildfire on social media.
Ashwin was talking to popular cricket journalist Vimal Kumar on his show ‘Ash ki Baat’ and the two were discussing the upcoming season of Indian Premier League (IPL), which starts from March 22. While doing so they touched upon Mumbai Indians, one of the most successful franchise of the league, and how it doesn't need any introduction given the names available in their roster.

Vimal started the discussion by pointing out how Mumbai always had the guidance of Sachin Tendulkar, who is an icon of the game, following which Ashwin interrupted and quipped with a cheeky joke. "Ek taraf Sachin Tendulkar hai, doosri taraf Shubman Gill, GT ka captain. Theek hai, baat karo (At one point, we have Sachin Tendulkar, on the other, we have Shubman Gill. Now, continue)."
Taking note of the joke fans were quick to connect the dots and linked it with the ongoing internet speculation. There have been rumours about a possible link-up between India's rising star Gill and Tendulkar's daughter Sara. While Ashwin didn’t elaborate further, his joke certainly drew hilarious reactions from fans. Watch the video:

Gill will be seen leading the Gujarat Titans and will hope for a better show as compared to the previous edition. Gujarat had finished eighth in the ten-team table in IPL 2024, managing just five wins in their 14 matches.
Ashwin, on the other hand, will reunite with the Chennai Super Kings, who roped in the carrom-ball specialist for Rs 9.75 crore in the mega-auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia last November.
