Shubman Gill is a young captain and there were reservations around him before India left for England to engage in a gruelling five-match series. Despite that, the 25-year-old made an exceptional start to this new chapter of his in Indian cricket. He scored a couple of tons, and a double century in the first two Tests but as the series progressed his form saw a significant drop.
In addition, his on-field antics and decisions as a leader were also questioned as India stare at a third consecutive series defeat in the traditional format. Speaking about his antics, Gill engaged in almost brawl like situation with Zak Crawley, which many felt have fired England up. The rotation of bowlers and underutilisation of Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar have seen him receive a lot of flak.

As Gill continues to deal with criticism, the young Indian skipper has received some words of advice from former English captain Nasser Hussain. Although Hussain was also among the ones questioning Gill over his bowling change decisions, the former England cricketer was kind enough to leave a learning message for Gill.
“Especially as a young Indian captain… there's no middle ground. When he was getting 260-odd at Edgbaston and winning the Test match, it was all like, 'who is Virat Kohli? Who is Rohit Sharma? We have moved on'. Then you have a couple of bad games, the series starts going away from you, then every decision is picked on,” Nasser told Sky Sports Cricket.
“The key to it is to stay off social media. You are a young learning captain. Learn from this experience. If you are a batter or a bowler, you are not an end product at the start. It's the same with captaincy,” said the former England skipper further.
