Young sensation Sai Sudharsan has been grabbing headlines with his stellar performances in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The Gujarat Titans batter has consistently delivered for his side, playing a key role in almost every match.

In the high-stakes Eliminator against Mumbai Indians on Friday (May 30), Sudharsan reached a remarkable milestone, becoming only the third Indian to score 700 runs in a single IPL season. With this feat, he joins an elite club alongside Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli.

Virat Kohli, the RCB star, has achieved this milestone twice — in 2016 and again in 2024. His opening partner, Shubman Gill, reached the landmark for the first time during the 2023 season, when Gujarat Titans made it to the final. With this feat, Sai joins the ranks of some of the finest Indian batters in IPL history.

Virat Kohli set the all-time record in the 2016 season with a staggering 973 runs — the highest ever in a single IPL campaign. He followed it up with another prolific run in 2024, amassing 741 runs as RCB made it to the Eliminator. Shubman Gill, meanwhile, had a standout season in 2023, leading Gujarat Titans to the final with a brilliant run of form.

Sudharsan kept Gujarat Titans in the hunt during their steep chase of Mumbai’s imposing 229-run total. After an early blow with Shubman Gill’s dismissal and Kusal Mendis' unfortunate hit-wicket dismissal, GT’s innings looked shaky. But the 23-year-old Sudharsan showed remarkable composure.

Unfazed by the mounting pressure, he unleashed a flurry of boundaries to ease the tension and anchored the innings with a vital 84-run partnership alongside Washington Sundar, keeping Gujarat’s hopes alive deep into the chase.

His brilliant knock came to an end at 80 off just 49 balls when he attempted a scoop off a low full toss from Richard Gleeson in the 16th over, only to be undone by the clever delivery. He finished the season with 759 runs with an average of 54.21.
