Ekana hosts Super Giants match

Lucknow Super Giants lock horns with Gujarat Titans in the 21st match of IPL 2024. The match will be played at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket stadium on Sunday.

The Toss

This is going to be an interesting match as the pitch has an element of surprise in it, understanding the dimensions of the ground crucial for the teams, and the toss of coin critical for favourable result!

This will be the second match of the season at the Ekana stadium. The cricket ground is scheduled to host 7 matches featuring LSG.

The pitch of this ground has been of interest due to its varied nature. Whether the pitch will hold true and offer good pace and bounce or whether its stays low and slow depends on what kind of soil is used. The red or the black soil means all the difference here.

The Pitch

Usually like most of the IPL pitches, this ground too offers big runs and some slow turn to the spinners. Gujarat have a deadly spin combo of Rashid Khan and Nor Ahmed while Lucknow would rely on the tweakers offered by Ravi Bishnoi and Krunal Pandya.

Winning the toss too is critical at this venue. Eight IPL matches have been played at this venue. Out of these, 6 times teams batting first have won while only once the chasing team emerged victorious. One match offered no result. As 75 percent matches have been won here batting first, teams that win the toss would like to set the target.

In the last match played here, LSG batted first and won. Supported by good knocks from Quinton de Kock, Krunal Pandya and Nicolas Pooran, LSG managed 199 in 20 overs. Batting second, Punjab side were done in by the guile of Lucknow pacers Mohsin Khan and Mayank Yadav who shared 5 wickets between them.

In that match, LSG used the ground conditions to their advantage. Captaining the side that day, Pooran said that the team management used left-right combination in batting, and they were careful of not hitting at the bigger side of the ground to avoid getting caught. The ground also has a shorter side that batters would like to exploit.
