LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka awestruck by Digvesh Rathi; shares clip of bowler taking 5 wickets in 5 balls – WATCH

Judging from the post, Sanjiv Goenka didn't know Digvesh Rathi had ever bowled a fiery spell like this in which he totally dismantled the opposition batting lineup.

Digvesh Rathi was one of the discoveries of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. In his first season, the mystery spinner, who the Lucknow Super Giants purchased for a mere Rs 30 lakh, became one of their preferred bowlers, taking 14 wickets in 13 games at a good economy rate of 8.25.

Rathi's contentious 'notebook' celebration garnered plenty of media attention, but one of his on-field performances has since gone viral. Rathi once claimed five wickets in five balls during a local Twenty20 match; the footage has gone popular online. Sanjiv Goenka, owner of LSG, was unable to control his reaction.

In February 2025, while participating in a local game, Rathi deceived the opposition. Digvesh finished with match figures of 7/28 after rushing through the opposition batting order in one over and taking five consecutive wickets, including four bowled and one leg-before-wicket (LBW).

The official social media account of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) posted the video, and owner Goenka posted the following:

"Stumbled upon this clip of Digvesh Rathi taking 5 in 5 in a local T20 game. Just a glimpse of the talent that made him a breakout star for LSG in IPL 2025," Goenka posted on X.

According to the post, Goenka didn't know Digvesh had ever bowled a spell like that, even though it had happened prior to the 2025 Indian Premier League. The spell would have occurred long after Digvesh had already been acquired by LSG at the big auction, as it occurred in February 2025.

Digvesh's fierce 'notebook' celebration and superb bowling propelled him to stardom in the 2025 Indian Premier League. When he got rid of Priyansh Arya, an uncapped batsman for the Punjab Kings (PBKS), in LSG's third game of the season, Digvesh's wild celebration began.

During IPL 2025, Digvesh received several fines from the BCCI for his celebration. A verbal altercation with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) star Abhishek Sharma later in the season cost Digvesh five demerit points and a one-match suspension.

"This was his third Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 this season and hence, he has accumulated Two Demerit Points, in addition to Three Demerit Points he had accumulated earlier - One Demerit Point against Punjab Kings on April 01, 2025 and Two Demerit Points against Mumbai Indians on April 04, 2025. As he now has Five Demerit Points this season - which result in a one-game suspension - Digvesh will now be suspended for LSG's next game - against Gujarat Titans on May 22, 2025 in Ahmedabad," the statement from IPL read.
