After chat with Rishabh Pant, Sanjiv Goenka addresses LSG players post DC loss

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) lost a close game against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Visakhapatnam on Monday, thanks to an astonishing knock by Ashutosh Sharma. Chasing a 210-run victory target, DC were on the brink of losing their Indian Premier League (IPL) opener when Ashutosh smashed an unbeaten 66 to snatch a one-wicket victory from the jaws of defeat with 3 balls to spare.

On Tuesday, LSG shared a video on their official X handle showing the franchise owner Sanjiv Goenka addressing the team after the close defeat. Goenka says in the video, “Lots of positives that I take away from this game, in batting, in bowling. The way we had the powerplay in both batting and bowling was brilliant. These things happen. We are a young team, let’s look at the positives, and look forward, from tomorrow, to the 27th. And hopefully, we’ll have a better result. Disappointing result, yes, but great game. So well done.”

Goenka was the in the news during the last year’s tournament for publicly rebuking then LSG captain KL Rahul after losing a match. That incident is said to be the start of the departure of Rahul from LSG. On Wednesday also, pictures and videos emerged of Goenka talking to current LSG skipper Rishabh Pant after the match, but there didn’t appear any sign of animosity between the two.

This was the first time a 200-plus mark was successfully against LSG, and 210 runs is the biggest target DC have ever successfully chased in the IPL. The Delhi Capitals have now won the previous three head-to-head matches, although the Lucknow Super Giants won the first three.

The DC response began with a spectacular performance by Vipraj Nigam, who announced his arrival in the IPL with an amazing knock of 39 off just 15 balls. But it was Ashutosh Sharma who delivered the decisive blow when his power-hitting sent the LSG bowlers on a leather hunt.
