Bhakti Narasimha Swami, a spiritual seeker from Johannesburg, South Africa, has journeyed over 8,000 kilometers to take part in the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, one of the world’s largest religious gatherings. Reflecting on his spiritual transformation, the Swami shared his story of embracing Sanatan Dharma after transitioning from Christianity.
Describing the significance of his journey, Bhakti Narasimha Swami told ANI, "I have always dreamt of attending the Kumbh Mela. It is a sacred gathering where sadhus and saints come together to seek divine blessings. After years of wishing, I finally had the opportunity to be here, and I will take a holy dip in the Ganga at this auspicious event."
The Kumbh Mela, held at the sacred Triveni Sangam, attracts millions of pilgrims from across the globe. It is regarded as a momentous occasion for Hindus seeking spiritual purification and blessings.
Born into a Christian family, Bhakti Narasimha Swami grappled with existential questions during his early years. He found solace in the teachings of Sanatan Dharma, particularly the concepts of karma and reincarnation.
"As a young man, I often wondered why bad things happen to good people," he explained. "Sanatan Dharma provided answers through its philosophy of karma and the cycle of reincarnation. It helped me understand life’s deeper meaning."
He also questioned certain doctrines of Christianity, especially regarding salvation. "I struggled with the idea that those who do not accept Jesus Christ would go to hell. This led me to wonder about the fate of infants who die before embracing Christianity. These questions pushed me to seek answers beyond the faith I was born into," he shared.
His search for spiritual truth ultimately brought him to Sanatan Dharma, where he found a sense of belonging and purpose. "This is why I believe in Sanatan Dharma and have chosen the path of a sadhu," he added.
Bhakti Narasimha Swami is among the millions of devotees participating in the Maha Kumbh Mela this year. The festival will continue until February 26, featuring important bathing dates like Mauni Amavasya (January 29) and Maha Shivaratri (February 26).
