Popular standup comic Trevor Noah, who is on an India tour, called off two stand-up shows in Bengaluru due to "technical issues" and apologised to the audience members for the inconvenience, in what has caused a huge embarrassment for the organisers.
Noah appeared onstage for his scheduled comedy show at Manpho Conventional Centre in north Bengaluru’s Manyata Tech Park on Wednesday evening, but cancelled the show after realising the audience could not hear him.
Many fans, who had braved the nightmarish traffic on the mid-week to reach the venue, expressed their disappointment and called out the poor arrangements for the high-profile event.
“It’s pretty hard to do comedy when people can't hear you, you know,” Noah told the audience from the stage minutes after he arrived around 30 minutes late.
Poor Trevor tried to help the technicians get the audio right patiently. He was as disappointed as the rest of us https://t.co/T3Y8v7vMcU pic.twitter.com/paR0aYFYGo— Anuj Rathi (@anujrathi) September 27, 2023
Trevor Noah, 39, did not spend more than a few minutes on the stage before announcing that he is cancelling the show and that he will make sure everyone gets their money back.
Noah later took to his X account to make the announcement.
"Dear Bengaluru India, I was so looking forward to performing in your amazing city but due to technical issues we've been forced to cancel both shows. We tried everything but because the audience can't hear the comedians on stage there's literally no way to do a show," the Emmy Award-winning comedian wrote in the post.
BookMyShow has apologised to Trevor Noah fans after the fiasco.
Noah is next set to perform at the NSCI Dome in Mumbai on September 30 and October 1. This is his first tour in India.
