Dr. Vivek Raghavan (Founder, Sarvam AI): "There's a new trend in India where investors are considering backing deep tech companies. When the concept of Gen AI emerged, I thought about making a difference in this space. We wanted to build something in continuation of what we had been doing—making Gen AI available and accessible to people widely. There will come a time when you will actually get better responses from AI bots than human responses. The fact that there is a tremendous shortage of GPUs will slowly ease. We may find out that there are many more important problems that people will try to resolve."

The advent and growth in the artificial intelligence (AI) space has led to a surge in its application in various different fields such as writing and editorial industry, where there has been a steady rise in the use of ChatGPT to perform repetitive tasks.

Sarvam AI co-founder Vivek Raghavan, on Saturday, said that areas such as education and medical offer a clear scope to leverage AI in future.

"I think things such as education and medical are clearly areas where AI can be leveraged. The DPI aspect is another major application," Raghavan said at the CNBC-TV18 and Moneycontrol Global AI Conclave in Bengaluru on Saturday.

Raghavan also gave an insight into what prompted him and his team to build "Open Hathi" and said that when the concept of Gen AI came up, they wished to make a difference in that area.

"When the concept of Gen AI emerged, I thought about making a difference in this space. We wanted to build something in continuation of what we had been doing-making Gen AI available and accessible to people widely," he said.

When asked about Bhavish Agarwal's AI model "Krutim", Raghavan felt that it was great to see others joining in the race and added that the increasing number of people drifting towards AI indicated that the technology was a problem which needed a solution.

"I think it's great. I think it's wonderful. We need multiple people working on AI and the fact that other people are thinking about it validates that AI is an important problem to be solved. I think different people will have takes on how to solve this kind of problem, and hopefully the entire ecosystem benefits," he said.

Raghavan also predicted three events that could happen by December 2024: Speaking to an automated customer service than a real person, emergence of a GPU glut in India and sudden death of some companies.
