Author and philanthropist Sudha Murty has added another accolade to her repertoire: member of the Indian Parliament. At 74, Murty embarked on a new journey just a couple of days ago marking her first day as a Rajya Sabha MP that was complete with a wish from her son Soroco founder Rohan Murty on LinkedIn.

He expressed his pride and admiration in the post, highlighting the multifaceted roles his mother has undertaken throughout her life.

“Mrs. Murty goes to Delhi (Parliament). During the time I have known her, my mother, Sudha Murty, has been a professor (of computer science), author, philanthropist, mother, and wife. And yesterday, at the age of 74, she just started a new career - as a member of the upper house of the Indian parliament,” he wrote.

Murty shared a picture of his mother - ready to go - with the post concluding: “Here she is before she left home on her first day!”

On March 14, Murty took oath as Rajya Sabha MP in the presence of her husband Infosys founder N R Narayana Murthy. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar administered the oath.

Sudha Murty was nominated to the upper house of Parliament on International Women's Day. She has several awards including the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan.

Rohan Murty’s LinkedIn post was liked over 11,000 times. Rohan Murty is married to Aparna Krishnan and has a son called Ekagrah - possibly the country's youngest millionaire.

Murty's daughter Akshata is married to British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Sudha Murty, just days ago, recalled in a social media post the time when she received a call from the late President APJ Abdul Kalam and thought it was meant for her husband Narayana Murthy. It turned out that Kalam had indeed called her to praise one of her columns published in a leading daily.
