How Apple AirTag helped US couple track down their stolen car's exact location

A couple in the US were able to retrieve their stolen within two and a half hours of finding out thanks to Apple AirTag.

Leslie Muhammad and Antar Muhammad were asleep when their Toyota Camry was stolen from outside their home in North Carolina.

Muhammad woke up find their car missing from the driveway when they checked security footage from outside the house from a neighbour’s doorbell camera.

One of the thieves tries to open the door of another car, then they flee with Muhammad’s car, the footage shows.

The family said they always attach AirTags to everything, from their luggage to their car and their wallets. And these AirTags helped them and the police to track the car’s exact location.

"I just went to Find My (app). I opened that up. You could tell it was right at these apartments here, then they came out on this street here," Muhammad told WRAL News.

"I'm able to pinpoint exactly where it's at and actually to zoom in and almost precisely pick out the parking space the car was in," he said.

The Cary Police Department located the car just before 11 am on Saturday – it stolen on Friday night. The time they woke up to locating the car and the arrests were all done under two and a half hours. The police arrested three underage suspects and guns were recovered from them.

The couple left raving reviews for AirTag and vouched for those as an excellent and budget friendly security option.

AirTag previously helped a man locate and recover his stolen Range Rover in Canada. The device has also helped rescue a dog lost in California floods by leading rescuers to its location.

AirTag is a small, circular tracking device that can be attached to items such as keys, bags, and even vehicles. It uses Apple's Find My network to provide the location of the item, making it easier to locate it when it's lost or stolen. It uses a combination of Bluetooth and crowdsourced data to provide the location of the item.
