A Delhi man ordering chicken biryani found himself subject to unsolicited advice from the delivery executive. According to a Reddit post, as soon as the delivery agent from Biryani Blues entered the one-time password to confirm delivery, he offered an unwelcome opinion on the customer’s choice of meal.

"Bhaiya, suno, ye bhot galat kar rahe ho aap, theek nahi hai dharm mein ye (Brother listen, you are doing a very wrong thing, this is not okay in our religion)," the delivery agent reportedly said. The customer, taken aback, replied with a confused, “Kya hua bhaiya (What happened brother)?”

The agent then advised him to avoid eating chicken or mutton until after Diwali, suggesting he instead eat something “cleaner.”

The Redditor described his reaction, saying he was caught off guard and felt a twinge of guilt despite his own dietary choices. He noted that this experience ruined his mood and day and was compounded by lingering anxiety over whether the delivery executive might have tampered with the food after the awkward exchange.

He concluded his post saying: “What should I do? I have his number and name, he knows my home, if I report him he might make a scene.”

The post quickly garnered attention, sparking a discussion on the increasing trend of “moral policing” in India, with users questioning the delivery agent’s stance. One commenter pointed out, “Why is he rubbing his belief on you? Ask him not to deliver chicken then!” Another user shared similar concerns, saying, “This was one of my biggest fears—this kind of moral policing.”

However, some commenters also extended a degree of empathy toward the delivery executive, noting that his choice of words, starting with “bhaiya,” indicated he likely didn’t mean disrespect. “It’s your personal choice,” one commenter wrote, reminding the Redditor that he’s entitled to eat whatever he chooses.

Another wrote: "Just think of him as a really dumb person and move on."

A growing frustration with unsolicited moral commentary, especially over lifestyle choices that intersect with religious customs increases as festivals like Diwali approach, there’s heightened sensitivity around food practices, which some view as a deeply personal matter, while others feel compelled to impart their own beliefs.
