Delhi chief minister Atishi Atishi Marlena Singh recently made waves on social media after a video showing her referring to Satya Nadella as the CEO of Google instead of Sundar Pichai, went viral. The incident reportedly happened during her speech at the Excellence in Education Awards held at Delhi's Thyagaraj Stadium.
In her speech, Atishi was trying to highlight that the leaders of most global businesses have roots in India. "The biggest global companies whose products we use in our daily lives be it through our phones and apps... Even Google CEO Satya Nadella is of Indian origin," she said. Atishi, however, had corrected herself later during the event, but the clip doing rounds on social media has focused only on the gaffe.

Highlighting the achievements of prominent Indians on the global stage, Atishi added, "Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal are all Indians. World Bank President Ajay Banga is also an Indian. From top doctors to engineers, Indians are excelling in every field.... If Indians are leading globally in various fields, why are we still a developing nation? Countries that gained Independence around the same time as India have developed because they prioritised education over infrastructure projects like flyovers and roads."
But the error drew widespread criticism of the Delhi chief minister. Several BJP spokespersons took to X to share similar messages. Pradeep Bhandari shared the video and wrote: "Atishi says Satya Nadella is the CEO of Google. Even while reading from her speech, she can’t get a basic fact right. This is AAP’s education model for you!" Another BJP spokesperson Sunny Raj also shared the video and commented: "Atishi claims Satya Nadella is the CEO of Google! Even while reading from her speech, she gets a basic fact wrong. This is what AAP’s education model looks like!"
