In a rare emotional address, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un fervently implored the women of his nation to bolster declining birth rates, emphasizing the collective responsibility of solving this issue. Standing alongside uniformed leaders, Kim Jong Un's tearful plea aimed to rally support for population growth, citing it as crucial for strengthening the country's future.

South Korea's government statistics agency reported a decline in the average number of children per North Korean woman from 1.88 in 2014 to 1.79 in 2022, prompting Kim to stress the urgency of addressing this decline.

Kim Jong Un stated, "Stopping the decline in birth rates and providing good child care and education are all our family affairs that we should solve together with our mothers." He appeared to be wiping off tears in a viral clip.

To incentivize families, the government is reportedly offering special benefits, including free housing, food, medicine, household goods, and educational incentives for those with three or more children.

The leader's public appearances with his young daughter, Ju Ae, have led observers to speculate on a potential public relations strategy to encourage family growth. The recent National Mothers meeting in Pyongyang, the first in more than a decade, served as a platform for Kim Jong Un to convey his message directly to the public.

The leader also emphasized the crucial role of North Korean women in shaping the nation's future and outlined priorities such as promoting family harmony, eliminating non-socialist practices, establishing a sound cultural and moral life, and cultivating communist virtues among the populace.

The declining population holds implications for North Korea on multiple fronts, including its military. Despite boasting the world's fourth-largest standing army, the nation faces challenges, ranking 56th in total population. Any acute decline could jeopardize its military strength and stability, raising concerns for the heavily sanctioned and isolated socialist government.
