A week after the Chinese social media was rocked by a viral video of two diners urinating in a hotpot without the restaurant staff's knowledge, another pee-gate incident has caused outrage on the internet. This time, it's a two-year-old boy who urinated into a glass at a restaurant in eastern China. His mother has defended the action and said that the boy "could not hold it in anymore".
The incident came to light after a customer who witnessed it at the Fuyuanju Restaurant in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, told the media about it, South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported.
Identified only by his surname, Tang, the witness said she and her friends were at the eatery on March 13 when she saw a toddler at the table next to theirs get up from the designated child’s chair, and pull his pants down to pee in a glass.
It wasn't a disposable utensil and was meant to serve customers, she said, adding that the boy and his mother were accompanied by two elderly relatives.
“When the boy said he wanted to urinate, one elderly individual went to get a bin, suggesting the boy pee there. But the boy’s mother said, ‘just let him pee directly into the glass,’” SCMP quoted Tang as saying. Shocked that the restaurant staff did not intervene despite the boy’s table being near their counter.
Tang said that the glass containing the urine remained on the table and after a while, they could not stand the smell so they asked a restaurant staffer to deal with the matter.
The boy’s mother reportedly told the worker: “We are sorry that the kid could not really hold it any more. So he peed in the cup.”
