A man took to X to express his frustration after a bus conductor refused to give him back change. Nithin Krishna from Bengaluru boarded a BMTC (Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation) bus and bought a ticket for Rs 15. The conductor didn’t give him back Rs 5 citing that he doesn’t have change.

Krishna, who clearly had experienced such behaviour in the past, wrote, “I lost my 5 rupees as this conductor didn’t had even 1 rupee change (?) to return. Is there any solution to this?”

The amount might be small but Krishna had had enough according to his tweet. According to him, the amount was not the problem but the practice of some bus conductors not returning money on the pretext of not having change was annoying.

“Either you should provide them with sufficient change before the start of the trip or else use technology to do online payments. Should I lose my money every time? And conductors are using this to earn some silly bucks.”

His post went viral and social media users dropped suggestions for him in the comments section.

“The only solution is to keep exact change for a hassle free travel experience in public transport, and will not create any inconvenience both to respective bus conductor and public! You can download Namma BMTC or Tummoc app to know the bus fare before you board the bus,” one user wrote.

A user asked Krishna to use UPI or online payments. To which he replied, “Not available in non-AC buses.”

A section of people resonated with Krishna’s thoughts and weighed in with their opinions.

“That is a standard practice in any public transport you take in Bangalore. They don't pay you change, unless forced to pay. It's not a mistake,” a third user commented.

A fourth user remarked, “What’s stopping BMTC to give UPI on non AC buses? It will solve majority of change issues. The conductors and passenger both suffer due to this mismanagement by the BMTC officials.”

Another person added, "That’s so true. I don’t understand why @BMTC_BENGALURU is reluctant in letting folks pay through UPI on non-AC buses when it’s already being used on AC buses."
