A man was fined Rs 500 for eating inside the Bengaluru Metro

A Bengaluru man who filmed and circulated a video which shows him eating inside the metro has now been caught and fined Rs 500 for breaking rules. According to a report in The New Indian Express, Sunil Kumar’s video, shared on social media last week, shows him enjoying a plate of gobi manchurian inside the Bengaluru Metro. He violated the rule which prohibits eating and drinking inside the trains or on platforms.

The report says that Kumar and his friends work at a prominent jewellery outlet in Jayanagar. The group boards the metro at Sampige Road Station every day to reach Jayanagar.

A few days ago, Kumar shared a video on social media which shows him chuckling as he digs into a plate of food. Two of his friends filmed the clip, in which one friend can be heard calling him an “uneducated fool” in a mocking tone.

Police used CCTV footage to track and identify Kumar, who is in his twenties. On Tuesday, when he and his friends deboarded the Metro at Jayanagar around 9.30 am, cops were waiting for him. They took him to a nearby police station where he was asked to pay a fine of Rs 500 and a non-cognisable offence report was filed against him.

“This is a very rare incident as commuters generally adhere to rules. The trio deboarded a Metro train at 9:30 AM at Jayanagar on Tuesday. Waiting security personnel took them to the police station nearby. They were detained for half a day,” the executive director of operations & Maintenance, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), told The New Indian Express. He was warned not to repeat the offence and released.
