The Bengaluru Police has registered an FIR against the owner of Bangalore Metro Clicks (@metro_chicks)-an Instagram account that triggered an uproar on social media after it shared 14 videos of women passengers on Namma Bengaluru Metro trains filmed without their consent. The videos have been deleted from Instagram and its associated Telegram channel has been deactivated.
But what's equally shocking is that until Tuesday, the Instagram account had 5,605 followers; on Wednesday, the number crossed 6,000. Once the word spread about the existence of such an account, social media users were appalled to find that more than 5,600 people followed the account for its violating videos on Instagram while it's Telegram channel had 1,188 subscribers.
While comments on the videos were disabled, they carried texts on them, such as "finding beautiful girls on Namma Metro" and have disturbing clips of women being followed and filmed without their knowledge.
On Tuesday, police commissioner B Dayananda told Moneycontrol: "A case has been registered at Banashankari Police Station. The accused will be traced and arrested."
The FIR stated, "Upon further examination of the account, it was found that metro_chicks had uploaded a total of 14 videos, which appear to violate the dignity of women. The Telegram channel was taken down and all Instagram posts were deleted."
The incident came to light after an Instagram user came across the account shared it on X, urging the Bengaluru Police to take action against the "pervert".
