Top-5 hatchbacks that have the biggest discounts this festive season
Starting with the Renault Kwid and going up to the Citroen C3, this festive season promises a discount for those looking to buy their first or even next car
The festive season is upon us, and attractive offers ranging from discounts to free goodies are beckoning everywhere. The same goes for the four-wheeler market. If you're looking to buy your first car or even a new one, now is probably a better time than usual thanks to the discounts that car manufacturers are offering. Hatchbacks are the most popular form of all vehicles in India, thanks to their small size and easy maneuverability. Add to that the fact that they're inherently less expensive, the discounts offered on hatchbacks make them one of the most enticing buys during the festive season. Here are five hatchback models with the biggest discounts you can get.

Renault Kwid | Offer: Benefits up to Rs 50,000 | Starting off with the Renault Kwid priced at an ex-showroom price of Rs 4.69 lakh, the manufacturer is kindly offering benefits that total up to Rs 50,000. This includes a Rs 20,000 cash benefit as well as a Rs 20,000 loyalty benefit extended to those that are already Renault car owners. What makes the Renault Kwid a good buy is its fairly funky styling. Directed towards the youth, the Kwid in our opinion, is the most stylish of the hatches in the market today, let alone this list. Updated for the BS6 2 emissions norms in February, the Kwid gets two petrol engine options. The 800cc powertrain produces 52 hp and 72 Nm and comes mated to a 5-speed manual while a 1-litre unit produces 67 hp and 91 Nm. The latter option also gets a 5-speed automatic transmission option alongside the 5-speed manual. The Kwid doesn’t miss out on tech either. It comes strapped with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, semi-digital instrument cluster, tyre-pressure monitoring system, electronic stability programme, ABS, traction control and hill-start assist among others. Hyundai Grand i10 Nios | Offer: Discounts up to Rs 50,000 | The Grand i10 Nios is Korean carmaker, Hyundai’s entry-level hatch and for this festive season is being offered with an exchange bonus Rs 10,000, cash discounts of Rs 30,000 and corporate benefits up to Rs 10,000 allowing for total discounts of up to Rs 50,000. The i10 Nios is priced in a range of Rs 5.84 lakh and Rs 8.51 lakh, ex-showroom. The facelifted hatchback was launched back in January sporting all-new bumpers, tri-arrow-shaped LED DRLs and 15-inch alloys. Minor updates to the interiors also were made with new colours and a refreshed instrument cluster. Powering the Nios is the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol that produces 83 hp and 113.8 Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. There is a factory-fitted CNG kit also available on this engine option. This is mated to a single 5-speed manual gearbox and produces 69 hp of maximum power and 95.2 Nm of peak torque. Unfortunately, with the arrival of the facelift, the 100 hp turbo-petrol engine was taken away and kept reserved for the higher models in Hyundai’s lineup. (Image: Hyundai)

Maruti Suzuki Celerio | Offer: Discounts up to Rs 59,000 | Next up on the list is India’s favourite four-wheeler manufacturer Maruti Suzuki with their entry-level hatchback the Celerio. Positioned just above the all-star Alto, the Celerio is available at a discount of up to Rs 59,000 off. This includes a Rs 20,000 exchange bonus, Rs 35,000 cash discount and Rs 4,000 by way of corporate offers. The Celerio is one of Maruti Suzuki’s most popular cars and that could possibly be because of its extremely low Rs 5.36 lakh starting price. The Celerio also is decently kitted out and is powered by a 1-litre petrol engine that generates 69 hp of maximum power and 89 Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, one can also opt for a factory-fitted CNG kit that produces a lower 57 hp of maximum power and 82 Nm of peak torque. (Image: Maruti Suzuki)
Maruti Suzuki Ignis | Offer: Discounts up to Rs 70,000 | Maruti Suzuki’s quirkiest car is also the slowest selling car in their lineup. Retailing at Rs 5.84 lakh, ex-showroom, these slow sales may not be a price issue and simply a design preference problem. Either way, Maruti Suzuki is offering a massive Rs 70,000 discount on the Ignis. This is comprised of a Rs 35,000 cash discount, Rs 25,000 exchange bonus and corporate benefits worth Rs 10,000. The Ignis is a fairly spacious car on the inside, especially given how compact it really is. Powering the hatch is a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 83 hp of maximum power and 113 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options come in the form of a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox. The Maruti Suzuki Ignis also sells through the company’s premium Nexa dealership unlike the Celerio above that sells through the Arena dealerships. (Image: Maruti Suzuki)

Citroen C3 |Offer: Discounts up to Rs 99,000 | Finally, the Citroen C3. The newest car on the block, the Citroen C3 is also offering the highest discount so far of up to Rs 99,000. This includes cash discounts, exchange bonuses as well as extended warranty programmes. Additionally, the hatch is also being offered under the company’s ‘buy now, pay later’ programme for selected variants. The Citroen C3 gets two petrol options. A 1.2-litre naturally aspirated unit produces 82 hp of maximum power and 115 Nm peak torque. The 1.2-litre turbo-petrol, on the other hand, generates 110 hp of maximum power and 190 Nm of peak torque, making it the most powerful turbo-petrol in its class. The C3 doesn’t skimp out on tech either as the top-spec variant gets a large 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system complete with wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay. All of this for the low-low ex-showroom price of Rs 7.08 lakh. (Image: Citroen)
