Starting today (November 4, 2025), OpenAI will be offering the recently introduced and also the most affordable paid subscription -- ChatGPT Go -- for free to all users in India. According to the recent announcement, the Go subscription will be free for an year and users will be able to access all the benefits that the plan offers. The offer comes as part of the company’s effort to expand its user base in India, which OpenAI has recognized as its second-largest and fastest-growing market.
If you are unaware, ChatGPT Go is OpenAI’s low-cost subscription plan that was initially launched in India in August 2025 at a price of Rs 399 per month. The plan was designed to sit between the free tier and the more expensive ChatGPT Plus subscription, offering more access to premium AI tools and higher usage limits.
ChatGPT Go: Benefits The ChatGPT Go plan unlocks several benefits that were previously restricted to paid users. Subscribers now get:
- Higher message limits, allowing for longer and more detailed interactions per day.
- Expanded image generation and file upload capabilities, which let users create visuals and process documents directly within chats.
- Longer memory that allows the chatbot to maintain context over extended conversations, improving personalized and context-aware responses.
- Access to the latest AI model, a variant similar to OpenAI’s GPT-5, bringing better reasoning, faster response times, and more accurate outputs.
- Additionally, the Go tier supports local payment methods like UPI, although the year-long access period will be free for all Indian users.
According to OpenAI, the free rollout aims to consolidate its footprint in India’s fast-growing AI market and compete with tech giants like Google and Perplexity, both of which recently introduced similar free access to their premium AI tools. OpenAI hopes this will encourage broader adoption of advanced AI capabilities across businesses, students, and professionals.
What users can expectIndian users can activate the ChatGPT Go plan starting today through the official ChatGPT app or website. Once activated, the free access will remain valid for 12 months before standard pricing resumes.
OpenAI’s Vice President of ChatGPT, Nick Turley, said the move is intended to “help more people across India access and benefit from advanced AI.” With this, OpenAI joins a growing trend of AI companies offering premium-tier access for free to strengthen their user engagement in key markets.
