Nissan has unveiled its upcoming Tekton SUV, confirming its plans to re-enter India's mid-size SUV segment. Drawing inspiration from the brand's flagship Patrol, the Tekton will rival models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara when it arrives in Indian showrooms by mid-2026.
Nissan Tekton Launch In India
The Nissan Tekton will be the company's next major SUV after the Magnite and forms part of Nissan's three-model expansion plan for India. It will be built at the Renault-Nissan Alliance plant in Chennai, which also exports vehicles to overseas markets. The Tekton is being developed under Nissan's 'One Car, One World' approach, ensuring a balance between global standards and local needs.
Just for reference, Renault now has a 100% stake in the Chennai plant, which has an annual installed capacity of around 4,80,000 units.

Nissan has lined up three new models for India -- a compact MPV expected in early 2026 (Nissan's version of Renault Triber), the Tekton mid-size SUV around mid-2026, and a 7-seater SUV likely to follow by early 2027.
Nissan Tekton Price In India
While
official prices will be announced closer to launch, industry estimates suggest the Tekton could be priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). This would position it directly against established mid-size SUVs from Hyundai, Kia, Maruti Suzuki and Toyota. The pricing strategy is expected to play a crucial role in Nissan's attempt to regain a strong foothold in the segment.
Nissan Tekton Design
The Tekton's styling takes clear cues from the Nissan Patrol, evident in its upright proportions and bold surfaces. It features a muscular bonnet, a large front grille with C-shaped LED headlamps, and a sculpted bumper. The side profile gets pronounced shoulder lines with a 'Double-C' door accent, while the rear design includes a full-width illuminated light bar and large TEKTON lettering on the tailgate. The overall look is clean and purposeful, aligning with Nissan's global SUV identity.
Nissan Tekton Features
While Nissan has not detailed the features yet, the Tekton is expected to come equipped with a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, connected car technology, six airbags, ADAS safety suite, and a 360-degree camera. The cabin is likely to feature premium upholstery, ample storage, and a focus on interior ergonomics.
Given the segment expectations, the Tekton is also expected to offer ventilated seats, wireless charging, automatic climate control, multiple drive modes and a panoramic sunroof.
Nissan Tekton Powertrains
Official powertrain details are yet to be revealed. However, market expectations suggest Nissan may equip the Tekton with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol option shared with global alliance models. Transmission choices are likely to include both manual and CVT automatic options.
Nissan Tekton Rivals In India
Once launched, the Nissan Tekton will compete in one of India's most competitive segments. Its rivals will include the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Tata Curvv, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, and MG Astor.
