A massive crane involved in the metro project in Surat collapsed onto a bungalow on Thursday, making it the second metro construction accident in just over three weeks. On July 30, a concrete girder of an under-construction metro bridge developed a crack between pillars in the Saroli area.
The crane caused damage to the bungalow, which was unoccupied at the time of the incident. The collapse happened in the Yamunanagar 2 society of Nana Varachha.

The crane operator also suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The accident occurred during a girder launching operation, where two cranes were being used to erect a segment. One of the cranes became unbalanced, causing the segment to drop and drag the crane onto the adjacent bungalow.
Traffic in the area will be rerouted for the next 10 days due to the latest incident.
