Shiv Sena UBT leader Arvind Sawant recently referred to former BJP leader Shaina NC as 'imported maal' sparking a controversy.
"All her life, she (Shaina) stayed in the BJP and now look at her ... Humare yahan imported maal nahi chalta (Imported material does not work here). Only original maal works here," he said.

Earlier this week, Shaina NC quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and joined the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction just weeks ahead of the Maharashtra assembly elections. She filed nomination as the candidate of Shinde-led Sena from the Mumbadevi assembly constituency in Mumbai.
Sawant made the sexist remarks during a media interaction when asked about the prospects of rival Shiv Sena nominee Shaina NC.
Reacting sharply to the Shiv Sena (UBT) MP's 'imported maal' remarks, Shaina said that it only reflects the mindset of Arvind Sawant and his party.
"This reflects the mindset of Arvind Sawant and his party. Does he think every woman of Mumbadevi is a maal? On one side there is Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde's Ladki Behan Yojana, on the other side there is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Ujjwala, Mudra Banking, Housing Scheme, where women are empowered. Droupadi Murmu, a tribal woman, is the President and on the other side Mahavinash Aghadi's Arvind Sawant calls me 'imported maal'," Shaina said.
The Shiv Sena leader filed a formal complaint against the UBT leader over the remark at the Nagpada police station.
"You (Sawant) will have to apologise at the Nagpada Police Station. People will certainly teach the Shiv Sena (UBT) party a lesson in the November 20 elections," the former BJP spokesperson added.
She also took to her X (formerly Twitter) handle and posted in Hindi "Mahila hoon, maal nahi" (I'm a woman, not goods/material).

Shaina NC will square off against Congress' Amin Patel from Mumbadevi, which is a part of Mumbai South Lok Sabha constituency.
