The Kopri-Pachpakhadi assembly constituency, located in Thane city, is a stronghold of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The CM is looking to win the fifth consecutive assembly term from the assembly seat. He first became MLA of Thane city in 2004. After Kopri-Pachpakhadi was carved out, he won from the constituency in 2009, 2014 and 2019. The CM recently held a road show in his constituency.

Constituency number 147 Kopri-Pachpakhadi is an unreserved seat. According to reports, the seat has 7007606 registered voters, including 3,74,8816 male voters, 3,25,7403 female voters, and 1387 third gender voters. According to the state Chief Election Commissioner (CEO), 366 polling stations have been set up in the constituency.

Shinde is up against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Kedar Prakash Dighe and Babu Kumar Kashinath Kamble from Lokrajya Party. Dighe is the nephew of the late Anand Dighe, a hugely popular Shiv Sena leader from the region whom the CM considers as his mentor.

Kopri-Pachpakhadi Assembly election results

In the 2019 Assembly elections, Shinde won this seat with a margin of 89,300 votes. He had also secured a victory in the 2014 elections on a Shiv Sena ticket, winning by a margin of 100,420 votes.

In 2014, the constituency recorded a voter turnout of 53.12%. However, in 2019, the turnout experienced a slight dip, decreasing to 52.76%.

Held in October 2019, the last assembly polls in the state saw the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) reach a majority to form the government. However, the scene changed soon. The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena quit the NDA and joined hands with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Indian National Congress (INC) to form a new alliance, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). Uddhav became the CM. Due to political unrest, in 2022, Shinde along with 40 MLAs left the Uddhav-led party and joined hands with the BJP. The Mahayuti alliance was formed, and Shinde became the CM.

2024 election date

Unlike the two-phase Assembly elections in Jharkhand, polls in Maharashtra will be held in a single phase for all 288 seats, the Election Commission of India (ECI) stated. The Kopri-Pachpakhadi constituency will vote on November 20. Counting of votes will be held on November 23.
