Fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's ancestral bungalow in Khed Taluka of Ratnagiri district in Maharashtra is likely to be auctioned soon, according to a DNA report.

As per the report, officers of the Smuggling and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act (SAFEMA) have reached the ancestral village of the underworld don, a key accused in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case.

The SAFEMA Act, which comes under the Ministry of Finance, provides for forfeiture of "illegally acquired properties" of smugglers and foreign exchange manipulators and their relatives.

Accompanied by valuation officers from Solapur, they will evaluate the exact value of the property. The officers will consider the total land covered by the bungalow and the compound before deciding on the property's current price, a senior SAFEMA official told the publication.

The officials further said that the Ratnagiri property has been under SAFEMA's lens for a long time. However, the process of auctioning was delayed because of reasons pertaining to jurisdiction.

The bungalow was reportedly constructed by Dawood's father Ibrahim Kaskar, who was a Mumbai Police officer, and it is registered under the name of Dawood's mother Amina.

The bungalow, unlike the other properties situated in Mumbai, is in a village and is not in good shape. The SAFEMA officials, who will evaluate the property, hope its a successful auction.

Earlier, a flat of Dawood's sister Haseena Parkar in Mumbai was auctioned off for Rs 1.80 crore on April 1, 2019. The flat, which has an area of 600 square feet, had a base price of Rs 1.69 crore, RN D'souza, Additional Commissioner, Income Tax Department had said.
