Bengaluru will play a pivotal role in making India the iPhone capital of the world, Karnataka's industries minister MB Patil said on August 18, as Foxconn begins production of the iPhone 17 at its new facility in Devanahalli.
“This is Foxconn’s second-largest unit outside China, built with an investment of $2.8 billion (Rs 25,000 crore). This milestone is not just about assembling smartphones -it reflects Karnataka’s emergence as a global hub for electronics manufacturing, creating thousands of jobs, strengthening supply chains, and powering India’s export ambitions,” Patil wrote on X.

“Apple is scaling up its India output rapidly, and Bengaluru will play a pivotal role in making India the iPhone capital of the world. Despite initial challenges, Foxconn’s operations are on track, reaffirming investor confidence in Karnataka’s robust ecosystem,” he said.
The Taiwanese electronics giant, which is the world’s biggest iPhome maker, started production of iPhone 17 recently. This is in addition to the production of iPhone 17 at its Chennai unit, a report said.
Apple plans to increase iPhone production to 60 million units this year from about 35-40 million units in 2024-25, reports have said.
Apple assembled 60 percent more iPhones, worth an estimated $ 22 billion, in India in the year ended March 31, 2025.
