Director Ashwin Kumar’s mythological animated epic Mahavatar Narsimha is finally ready to roar onto streaming platforms. After its record-breaking theatrical run, the film will be available to watch on Netflix from September 19.
On Thursday, Netflix India officially announced the OTT release by unveiling a fresh poster on X, captioned with the line, “The roar of this lion can topple a kingdom 🦁💥.” The news has sparked excitement among fans who missed the big-screen experience and are now eager to catch the film from home.
When it first arrived in theatres, Mahavatar Narsimha was not expected to dominate the box office. Yet, it stunned trade analysts and audiences alike by grossing over Rs 300 crore globally, becoming one of the highest-earning animated features in Indian cinema. The film, produced by Kleem Productions in collaboration with Hombale Films, chronicles the timeless tale of Prahlad, the devout young prince, and the powerful arrival of Lord Vishnu in his Narsimha avatar.
What set Mahavatar Narsimha apart was its ability to combine scale and spectacle with devotional storytelling. The animation work and dramatic world-building gave the mythological story a modern, cinematic edge that appealed to families and younger audiences. Director Ashwin Kumar described the project as “a vision years in the making,” and its theatrical success has laid the foundation for something much bigger.

The film is not just a standalone feature. It’s the first installment in the ambitious Mahavatar Cinematic Universe — a seven-part saga inspired by the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu. With Mahavatar Narsimha now complete, the roadmap ahead includes titles like Mahavatar Parshuram (2027), Mahavatar Raghunandan (2029), Mahavatar Dhawkadhesh (2031), Mahavatar Gokulananda (2033), and Mahavatar Kalki (2035–2037). Each film will explore a different avatar, building toward an interconnected universe unprecedented in Indian animation.
For those who couldn’t witness the grandeur on the big screen, September 19 marks a new chapter. With its arrival on Netflix, Mahavatar Narsimha is poised to reach an even wider audience and set the stage for India’s most ambitious animated franchise.
