Maruti Suzuki the leading car maker by market share, will showcase its first electric car, the SUV Vitara's electric version - e VITARA - at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, as it steps into the electric arena and intensify competition.
The car maker said the eBorn SUV, which was recently unveiled by Suzuki Motor Corporation at Milan, Italy, is production ready, and a manufactured in India, for the world. The e Vitara will cater to both domestic and global buyers and Maruti has earmarked nearly half of its production for export. The electric version is built on the 'HEARTECT-e' platform, which is specially designed for battery EVs, and offers 'superior driving experience', said the company.
"...to promote EV adoption, we need to create a holistic ecosystem that simplifies customers' battery electric vehicle ownership journey," Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India said.
Maruti Suzuki said to reassure buyers over accessible charging, the company will bring in 'home charging solutions as well as a nationwide network of fast chargers', available at dealerships and service touchpoints.
Electric Vitara's production is slated to commence at Suzuki Motor's Gujarat plant from March 2025, and plans are to begin production in Europe and Japan later in the year, Suzuki had said.
"The e Vitara is our first BEV, developed through repeated trial and error to create an easy-to-use BEV for our customers," Suzuki Motor Corporation President Toshihiro Suzuki had said in November.
"Following the launch of the e Vitara, we will continue to expand our BEV line-up and propose mobility solutions tailored to the needs of specific countries and regions," he added.
Maruti's Grand Vitara had become India’s fastest mid-SUV to cross 2 lakh sales in just 23 months of launch. Just recently, Maruti Suzuki had crossed the 20 lakh car production mark in a year for the first time ever.
