An Ertiga, its popular multi-purpose vehicle manufactured at its Manesar facility in Haryana, drove Maruti Suzuki India Ltd to new milestone — two million vehicles manufactured in a calendar year, making India’s largest car manufacturer the only company to achieve the feat in the passenger vehicle space.
Of the two million vehicles, almost 60 percent were manufactured in Haryana and 40 percent in Gujarat, the company said in a release on December 17. Baleno, Fronx, Ertiga, WagonR and Brezza were the top 5 vehicles it made during year.
“The 2 million production milestone is a testament to India’s manufacturing potential and our dedication to ‘Make in India’ initiative. This achievement reflects our commitment, alongside our supplier and dealer partners, to driving economic growth, supporting nation building, and making India’s automobile industry self-reliant and globally competitive," MSIL managing director & CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said.
Maruti Suzuki is also the first among Suzuki Motor Corporation’s global makers to reach the milestone.
