Bharatiya Janta Party's Hindutva leadership has freed millions and millions of Indian women from "smoked, puffing chulhas" by providing them clean cooking fuel without asking them about their religion, said President of India Foundation and former BJP leader Ram Madhav.
Madhav was speaking at a panel on Hindutva for Network 18's Rising Bharat Summit on March 19. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi while referring to the government's ‘Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana’ (PMUY), a flagship scheme that offers clean cooking fuel such as LPG to rural and deprived households which were otherwise using traditional cooking fuels such as firewood, coal, cow-dung cakes etc.
Usage of traditional cooking fuels has detrimental impact on the health of rural women as well as on the environment.
The government said average LPG consumption of PMUY consumers has increased by 29 percent from 3.01 refills in FY20 to 3.87 refills (till January 2024), pro-rated for FY24.
Madhav said, "It is the same Hindutva, which is freeing millions and millions of Muslim women from the curse of Triple Talaq."
The Bill against Triple Talaq was became a law back in August 2019. This followed a judgment by the Supreme Court on May 18, 2017 declaring it as unconstitutional.
"As far as so called Hindutva politics is concerned, it is totally non-discriminatory in the true spirit of Hinduism or Hindutva, it is for the welfare or well being of everybody - 1.4 billion Indian. That is the reason why people today support the prime minister and this government," Madhav said.
Madhav's comments come ahead of Lok Sabha elections scheduled in seven phases from April 19 to June 1.
